Peugeot, the UK's leader in diesel engine, has again pushed back the frontiers of this exciting technology with the announcement of its new HDI range of engines to succeed the XUD range.
The engine, now available in the 206,306,406 and 806 is based on "common rail" high pressure direct injection technology (HDI). The new engine demonstrates some breathtaking statistics given the outstanding class of it's predicesor.
20% reduction in fuel consumption
25% more power
Reduced noise & vibration
50% additional torque
Reduced exhaust emmisions
The engine was developed in less than 36 months on a budget of £300m, and works on the principle of electronically controlled extreme high pressure injection. This enables extremely fine droplets of fuel to be produced creating an excellent fuel air mixture.
The engine has be redesigned so the weight of moving parts has been reduced by 12%, with the reduced emmisions making it one of the most environmentally-friendly of its generation
